Born and raised on the east coast, Julia relocated to California after graduating from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on the island of St. Kitts, and finishing her clinical year at Louisiana State University in 2014. Her internship at VCA Mission Animal and Bird Hospital in Oceanside was where she was trained in general practice, emergency, and exotics medicine.
In her spare time she likes kayaking with her dogs, Layla and Jeffrey, and going to concerts with her husband, Zach.
Audrey is a native Californian who grew up and is currently living in Temecula. She received her bachelors degree in Animal Health Science from Cal Poly Pomona in 2020 and became a licensed Registered Veterinary Technician shortly after. She has been working at small animal practices for the past 3 years and works mainly with small companion animals but has some experience with exotics/pocket pets as well.
Audrey’s favorite part about veterinary medicine is the variety that this career offers and the bonds you create with the animals. She is constantly learning new things and loves making a difference in not only the animal’s lives but pet owner’s lives too.
Audrey owns 2 dogs, Juicy and Harley, whom she spoils as if they are her own children. She enjoys spending time with them going on hikes or to the beach. When she is not with her dogs, she enjoys backpacking, traveling, and snowboarding.
Lisa is a true San Diegan, born and raised. She started her veterinary career about 7 years ago and is a Certified Veterinary Assistant. She has experience working in small animal general practice, but the majority of her career has been spent working at a 24-hour Emergency and Specialty Animal Hospital in Kearny Mesa. Currently she manages an Animal Urgent Care in Mira Mesa.
Lisa has 3 dogs of her own, and a cat – named Skyla, Daisy, Jetta Blue, and Shadow. She calls her animals her children and loves spoiling them! In her spare time you can find her walking her dogs, sharing an ice cream on the beach, or bullet journaling to clear her head.
Lisa feels very blessed to have found a career that she loves, and one that truly brings joy and happiness into her life, as well as the lives of those that she helps. She could not imagine doing anything else.
Ana was born in San Diego and grew up in Temecula, CA. She discovered her passion to work with animals when she began horseback riding at 13 and eventually became an assistant caretaker at a ranch. She continued on to volunteer with a variety of species, including cockatoos and farm animals.
During college she pursued her NAVTA-approved certification to become a Veterinary Assistant and began working professionally in San Marcos. She plans on pursuing her education to become a licensed veterinary technician one day and loves to work with a variety of animals.
Born and raised in Oceanside, Ashley knew from a very young age that she wanted to work with animals. She got her first dog at the age of 11 and had a great time training her.Ashley has been in the veterinary field for 12 years. During that time, she’s received her Veterinary Assistant Certification and will be going to school for Canine Behavior and Training. She has experience working in an Emergency/Specialty Hospital setting as well.
She loves knowing that she is helping pets and making a difference, especially when bonding with the scared & nervous animals and getting them to trust her.
At home, she shares her space with two older pitbulls, Harley & Thor, which she adopted as puppies.In her spare time I like going for hikes, running with my dogs, relaxing at the beach, & barbecuing with friends.
Wes grew up working with horses and dogs and has an ever-growing passion for animal care. In 2015, Wes completed an internship at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Kentucky, where she attained many veterinary skills and an appreciation for the veterinary medicine field. Wes currently works at a dog and cat veterinary practice in Encinitas, and values how much pets are family too.
In her free time she enjoys rock climbing and going on adventures with River, her very sweet, energetic dog.
Cat was born and raised in New Jersey but has spent her entire adult life here in North county San Diego.
She started her veterinary career 15 years ago and currently works at a specialty hospital in Internal medicine. Cat has 2 Boston terriers, 14 year old Delilah and baby Kilian, and 2 Persian cats Poe and Starling. She also raises fancy goldfish!
Her hobbies are never ending. She loves Interior design and decor, crocheting, stained glass art, anything DIY, and enjoying nature with her pups.
Victoria is originally from San Dimas, California and moved to San Diego 4 years ago when she had her son.
She has been in the veterinary field for 5 years and is currently an assistant at Veterinary Emergency Group. She loves working in the field to help animals and be their advocate and their voice.
Victoria has 4 dogs and 1 child, so her free time is spent relaxing.
Alyssa was born in Ventura County, but grew up and has spent most of her life in San Diego County. Growing up, she’s always had multiple pets ranging from turtles, snakes and lizards to rabbits, dogs and cats.
Alyssa has worked previously as a Certified Nutritional Consultant for Just Food for Dogs. She decided that she wanted to expand her knowledge and interest in helping pets stay healthy by becoming a Veterinary Assistant in a General Practice. She has worked as an assistant in Carlsbad for the past year, working exclusively with dogs and cats. She appreciates her current role for the connections she makes with clients and their loving fur babies.
While working as an assistant, she has also dedicated her time over the past 3 years volunteering by making acrylic paintings for local Shelter Adoption Events. At home, she is the mother of a beautiful 10 year old daughter, 3 dogs, and a bearded dragon. In her spare time, she enjoys crossword puzzles, 3D puzzles, music, and painting.
Kayla is originally from Wichita, KS but recently moved to California from Seattle, with her husband. She’s been in the veterinary field working as a vet assistant for 5 years, where she has learned to work with exotics, cats and dogs.
She grew up having pets and prides herself on being an animal advocate. She currently has three fur babies of her own; Ringo, a 9 year old orange tabby, as well as Albert and Kenobi, her 4.5 year old Guinea pigs. In her free time, she loves to read, get crafty and explore California with her husband.
Hunter was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she lived for 6 years before moving to St. Louis, Missouri. She relocated to Southern California during high school, and received her state Veterinary Technician license in Missouri after moving back a few years later. Hunter has always had a deep-rooted passion for animals and has always had dreams of working in the veterinary field.
Since she was young, Hunter has volunteered wherever she could to help animals. Between 2017-2019, Hunter volunteered in Costa Rica with the Sea Turtle Sanctuary and a rehabilitation center for Howler Monkeys. Since moving back to California, she has been working on getting her nationally accredited Veterinarian Technician license. Hunter is CPR certified for dogs and cats.
Kurtis was born and raised in San Diego county and has had just about every kind of job you can imagine, but eventually found his niche in Vet Med. Kurtis started as an Approved Veterinary Assistant intern and quickly graduated the program to earn his AVA Certificate from Veterinary Specialty Hospital. He was then awarded a scholarship to attend Purdue’s Veterinary Nursing Distance Learning Program in which he is currently enrolled. He has risen to Assistant Level Three at Veterinary Specialty Hospital where he works within the Radiology Department. He works mostly with companion animals but has experience with exotics such as rats and birds.
Kurtis has two cats of his own, Marie and Batsby, which he considers his babies. When he’s not spending time with his fur babies, he enjoys going to Padres games and enjoying all the restaurants the city has to offer.
Annie Laskowski was born and raised in California. She earned a degree in Pharmaceutical Science before transitioning into the veterinary field, which she has been in for the past 7 years. She has previously worked in Emergency Medicine, specifically focused on in-patient care and triage. Her current role is a Veterinary Assistant at a General Practice, and is in the process of preparing to sit for the Registered Veterinary Technician Exam to obtain her RVT license.
She is currently enrolled in the Animal Science and Behavior program at Unity College and volunteers with her favorite animals at The California Wolf Sanctuary in Julian, CA. She is also a member of the San Diego Turtle and Tortoise Society. One day she hopes to work part-time at a local zoo.
At home, she has two Huskies, a German Shepherd-Mastiff mix, three cats, a tortoise, and three ducks. She spends her free time hanging out with her pets, watching television, and rollerskating with friends once a week. She also enjoys horror movies and astronomy. Her mission is to provide clients with the same quality of pet care that she gives her own animals.
Shannon, a certified veterinary technician (CVT), was born and raised in Iowa, growing up with Shetland Sheepdogs as pets. After graduating from Iowa State University studying sports medicine, she joined the Peace Corps and went to serve in Guinea, West Africa for almost 4 years, working in public health and community development. After returning home, she moved to Phoenix, AZ where she adopted two older pugs. After realizing she was happiest being with her animals, she pursued her Veterinary Technician degree at Bel-Rea Institute in Denver, CO.
Upon graduating from Bel-Rea, she pursued her passion for Emergency and ICU cases, caring for the sickest of pets, while working at an emergency and specialty hospital. In 2011, she moved to Oceanside and began working at Veterinary Specialty Hospital in San Marcos. She worked in the ER and ICU-patient care departments for over 10 years before transferring to their K9 Rehab & Physical Therapy department 1.5 years ago. In addition to this, she has worked as a Hydrotherapy technician at Tsavos’ K9 Rehabilitation for 4 years, which sparked her interest in physical therapy.
Shannon has one old lady pug, Gretel, who just turned 15 years old and they recently shared their 12 year adoptiversary. When she’s not working, she enjoys travel, the beach/sun, hiking, running, backpacking and camping, as well as just spending time snuggling with Gretel any chance they get. They pet-sit together often, as Gretel has a wonderful temperament around other animals.
