The Beginnings of Perfect Pair Pet Care

My Idea

My name is Julia Kochan. I grew up on the east coast in New Jersey and graduated from Ross University in 2014. I was lucky enough to go to veterinary school on an island in the Caribbean called St. Kitts. Many people have never heard of the island, and its very small. The closest islands are Puerto Rico and St. Maarten for reference. Because there is no teaching hospital on the island, I was transferred to Louisiana my 4th year of school to complete my clinical rotation at Louisiana State University. The day after completing rotations, I moved to San Diego to start my veterinary career.

After the first couple years in the field I realized the need for at home care. Many of my clients who were elderly, or just couldn’t handle the extra stress, could not comply with complicated at-home treatments for their pets. Anything from a dog who was difficult for ear cleanings to a cat with chronic kidney disease requiring daily oral medications and fluid administration could be a very taxing thing for an owner and their family, especially if their pet was just not having it.

I came up with my idea to help my clients about 2 years ago. I realized how upset my clients would be leaving the hospital with a long list of things the doctor had instructed them to do at home, knowing full well if they got even 1 or 2 things done off the list it would be an accomplishment. I figured by having myself, or other trained veterinary professionals, visit people in their homes and therefore taking the stress off their shoulders by doing the treatments for them, it would help to avoid the stress and time involved in a vet visit, while keeping the animal calm and collected in their own environment.

Only recently was I able to form my own corporation and business plan to have not only drop in visits, but provide overnight stays for people who would love to take a vacation, but hate the thought of leaving their pets in a hospital while they are away. Here lies the solution – a veterinary trained professional to care of your animals so you can take a vacation AND have peace of mind while doing so.
